What makes the change

Last night I sat in church with a woman I had previously known only over the phone. She had recently faced a horrific tragedy in her life and God had allowed me to minister to and pray with her.

Last night she came to church

The words that came from the Pastor’s mouth seemed to be directly to and for her. It was as if he knew she was going to be there that night. I’m sure she wondered how he knew. But that’s how God is. He is there in our darkest moments when we think we are isolated and alone.

He’s there

And He spoke to her last night. And as I sat quietly listening to the sound of her tears my heart wondered what could ever make it okay. I wondered if she could ever be okay again.

And then I remembered

I remembered the me I used to be. I remembered the thoughts I used to think about the world around me and the person I was in the midst of it. I remembered the brokenness that once affected every single decision and every single word.

I remembered His grace

I remembered experiencing Him. Yes, that’s really what changed everything for me. It wasn’t just hearing about Him, or even thinking about Him. It was experiencing Him that changed it all. It was encountering the presence of God in an old office at UCLA through a Christ follower who lived the assignment God gave him. It was encountering the presence of God in worship at a small church that pursued Him every week.

What changed me from that broken, lost, wounded girl I once was? What will heal the heart of the woman at church last night and make her life new? Only an encounter with the Presence of a Holy God who loves and saves.

He meets us where we are

All we have to do is ask. All we have to do is seek. We can run headlong into the heart healing, life changing presence of our own Creator. It doesn’t require a religious ceremony. It doesn’t require a building or a title. It simply requires a heart wide open and eyes to see.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

This is why Called to More even exists. It’s why we have these women’s events every other month. So you can come and experience the living God. We hope to see you in a couple of weeks.
