So much talking

So many people are doing so much talking right now. I’ve deleted Facebook and Instagram from my phone – for the umpteenth time. I just can’t stand everything that’s going back and forth. I started to think about all of the words that are coming out of people’s mouths and I wondered…

What if those words were prayers instead?

What if we prayed as much as we ranted, or argued, or complained?

I was going through an old journal and saw some notes from a Beth Moore teaching. She said something that caught my eye once again, she said…

“We will not live bolder than we pray”

…unfortunately I don’t think many of us pray bold prayers. I think we ask for small things or maybe we don’t ask for anything at all. I think we feel like our prayers are not effectual or fervent. But as I combed over those notes from that teaching from the beginning of 2019 I read this scripture:

Proclaim this among the nations, prepare for holy war, rouse the warriors, let the men of war advance and attack.

Joel 3:9

That wording might freak some of us out, we don’t like to talk about war…or advancing…or an attack. But I think the reason for that is because we don’t really understand who our enemy is. Or who this war is against. It’s not against flesh and blood, we see that in Ephesians 6. This war, this battle is against the enemy of our souls – the devil.

And we know that

The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4

What are those weapons? The Word of God. Those weapons are scriptures. Those weapons are what comes out of our mouth.

So what’s coming out of your mouth? Is it arguing and complaining? Is it just a bunch of words that are feeding into the negativity in the world right now? Or is it the Word? Is it the living and active Word of God?

It’s time to rouse the warriors

It’s time to make a decision to be very intentional about what comes out of our mouth – to be very intentional about what we let into us – and to be very intentional about how we approach life at this time in history.

It’s time to get out your Bible

It’s time to start looking at what the Word of God says about who you are – who God is – and what is happening in the world right now. And it’s time that we use our weapon against our enemy. Start speaking the Word, start praying the Word. There’s never been a better time for this than now – because so many people are doing so much talking right now. And we cannot let the enemy of our souls win.

For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12
